Could typhoon-prone Philippines be Asia’s floating solar pioneer?

A country that is hit by 20 typhoons a year is looking to its lakes, reservoirs and dams to trial the latest solar technology.

With its abundant sunshine, the Philippines is a perfect location to harvest the sun’s energy.

The sun-drenched nation is also the region’s most disaster-prone, with up to 20 typhoons slamming into the archipelago every year.

But despite these natural hazards, the Philippines, with its long coastline, is emerging as a frontrunner in trialling floating solar technology; if it can work in a country routinely battered by storms, then it could probably work in other countries.

This video highlights the Philippines’ floating solar potential, and is part of Eco-Business’s series on Southeast Asia’s clean energy transition
