Vietnam’s health plan for the agriculture sector

Vietnam’s Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development has proposed further reforms to the industry to improve sustainability of the agriculture sector and reduce rural poverty at the same time. With 70 per cent of the population dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods, social development of farming communities and the long-term health of agricultural resources both required special attention, said the minister. Goals in the new draft proposal include a 20 per cent reduction in agricultural greenhouse gas emissions, a 250 per cent increase in rural household incomes and a 3.5 to 4 per cent increase in agricultural GDP by 2020.
