In an era of growing economic shocks, trade disruptions and climate risks, decarbonising the maritime industry has grown in urgency. Shipping carries more than 80 per cent of global trade by volume and produces about 3 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions.
With the International Maritime Organization (IMO) targeting net‑zero emissions by or around 2050, decarbonising maritime transport now hinges on coordinated action across capital allocation, lower‑emission fuels, carbon pricing and critical infrastructure.
Across Asia, progress is constrained by high upfront costs, uncertain returns on investment and fragmented national regulations. This makes regional cooperation across the maritime energy ecosystem all the more important.
The Asia Maritime Energy Forum, hosted by Eco-Business in partnership with Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) during Singapore International Energy Week 2026, brings together senior government officials and industry leaders from Singapore and the region to determine shared pathways across four focus areas: Decarbonising ports, shipping corridors, low-emissions LNG and carbon markets and pricing mechanisms.
By bringing together these key stakeholders, the forum will provide:
▪️ Policymakers with the guidance to design regional policies, de-risk cross-border investments and establish collaborative frameworks
▪️ Industry leaders with practical pathways to adopt lower-emission technologies and remain competitive under economic and environmental pressures
▪️ Financiers with evidence-based models and insights to direct capital, reduce risk in transition projects and leverage regional opportunities
The outcomes from the forum will be synthesised into an Actions Paper capturing an agreed regional blueprint for a lower-emission future.
