The Centre will develop Bhubaneswar as a solar city for promotion of renewable energy and its usage. Bhubaneswar is among 60 cities identified for it in the country.
The entire cost of the Rs 37.37 lakh project would be borne by the Union ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE). It recently launched the nationwide programme on the development of solar cities to support urban local bodies in guiding their cities towards becoming ‘renewable’ energy cities.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), which would execute the project here, has entrusted Iclei South Asia, a consultancy agency to prepare a detailed project report (DPR). Corporators, cutting across partylines, at the annual council meeting here on Friday gave their consent for BMC to go ahead with the project.
