Multinational finance group Citi has appointed its first head of sustainability for the Asia Pacific region.

Relocating from London to Singapore to take on the role is Rapheal Mun, a 20-year veteran with Citi Group.

She has been appointed to the newly created position of head of sustainability and corporate transitions (SCT) for Citi’s banking, capital markets and advisory (BCMA) group in Asia Pacific.

Her role involves working sector, country and product teams to drive strategic sustainability among the group’s clients. Citi has raised over US$30 billion in sustainable financing for Asian clients so far this year, which is already a record for the bank

Mun will report to Jan Metzger, head of APAC BCMA, and also to Keith Tuffley, the SCT team’s London-based co-head, and Amol Gupte, Citi’s country officer Singapore.

Metzger commented that the newly created position “underlines the role Asia Pacific has to play in Citi’s sustainability strategy and delivering best-in-class solutions to our clients across the region.”

“Many are actively seeking solutions by investing in new technologies and innovations, pursuing M&A activity, and raising green capital to fund their sustainability ambitions,” she said.

Mun has worked at Citi for most of her career, starting out in real estate merges and aquisitions then moving into structured finance.

She is among a number of individuals moving into newly created sustainability roles at key finance groups in Asia Pacific this year, including Geir Espeskog and Emily Woodland at BlackRock, Eric Lim at United Overseas Bank,  and Colin Chen at Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group.
