The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has appointed Joe Hooper to lead the Global Centre for Technology, Innovation, and Sustainable Development in Singapore.
A joint initiative with the Singapore government, the centre was launched to develop sustainability solutions in areas such as digital finance, urbanisation, climate resilience and digital public goods.
The centre serves as a knowledge exchange hub for policymakers, practitioners, think tanks and businesses and as a platform to showcase examples of sustainable development innovation.

Hooper brings 22 years of experience with the United Nations to the role. The Canadian was previously senior advisor for the UNDP’s executive office, working on initiatives in public sector digital transformation, sustainable finance and fintech.
Over his career, he also worked with the UN Secretariat on business transformation and with UN Habitat in leadership roles including as head office in Palestine, and global branch coordinator for urban legislation, land and governance.
He has also worked for UNDP in Sri Lanka, Slovakia, Albania and Kosovo.
