Suzlon gets 202MW turbine order from Techno Electric

Indian wind power giant Suzlon has received an order for 202.2MW in turbines from Kolkata based Techno Electric Group.

The order is worth 1.149bn rupees ($251m), Suzlon says. The order comprises a series of wind farms which will use 24 of Suzlon’s 2.1MW S88 turbines, 34 of its 1.5MW S82 turbines and 48 of its new S95 2.1MW turbines.

The first wind farm of 101.4MW will be commissioned in the state of Tamil Nadu by June 2011, while the second phase of 100.8 MW will be commissioned by December 2011.

Techno Electric’s managing director P P Gupta says “We clearly see a great future and substantial growth opportunities for Independent Power producers in India’s wind energy market. We are optimistic about the value creation using a combination of various revenue options, such as the attractive feed in tariff, Generation Based Incentive, Renewable Energy Certificates and trading power under the open access system.”

The turbine order is part of a wider 500MW framework agreement between engineering and construction group Techno Electric and Suzlon, which has around 50% of the Indian wind turbine market. Techno Electric currently has around 95MW in operational wind projects in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka states.
