Automobile industries situated in the Chennai suburbs are joining hands to combat power outages by shifting to solar power. In a major move, five auto component companies got together to set up a solar power either in Tuticorin or Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu.
Auto Parts, Super Auto Forge, The Rane group, MM Forgings and Natesan Industries have formed a consortium and decided to install a Rs 70 crore worth solar farm, with an installed capacity of 7 MW. Out of these companies, M M Forgings has set up 20 wind mills in Theni and Tirunelveli. Despite assurance from Tamil Nadu Government that normalcy will be restored, the power situation continues to be grim.
The idea behind forming a consortium is the cost will be shared and the burden will not be on a single individual company. The companies have realized that green power is the only option that can be power independent. Set in 25 acres, annual power generation from the common plant will be 105-125 lakh units.
