The Future of Wind R&D

Wind R&D is a booming industry. Horizon 2020 estimates that by 2050 renewables will account for 55%-75% of European energy production and 97% of all electricity production. Within this wind energy will be the leading technology accounting for 49% of European electricity demand by 2050. There are increasing investment opportunities within wind R&D and a need for innovation in all areas. The main objective of R&D at the moment is reducing the cost of manufacturing, construction and maintenance of the turbines.

This conference looks at how R&Ds around the world can achieve this from multiple angles. Of course, innovations are important for reducing costs in the future. They are part of the long term wind energy plan to reduce costs. Moving wind farms further offshore on floating platforms is being worked on by the biggest organisationsand has potential for huge growth. Other areas on the cusp of development are vertical axis wind turbines and utilising areas of low and medium wind.
