Former investigative journalist and TV anchor Chai Jing (柴静) quit her job in 2014 after her baby daughter was born with a lung tumor. Believing her daughter’s tumor was caused by air pollution, Chai embarked on a rigorous investigation into China’s smog: what is it? Where does it come from? What can we do about it? The result of that investigation is Under the Dome, a 104-minute documentary produced and financed by Chai. The film combines footage of a lecture with interviews and factory visits, openly criticizing state-owned energy companies, steel producers, and coal factories. The film also shows the inability of Environmental Ministers to act against the big polluters, or the large state-owned enterprises.

As part of our month-long Earth Day celebration, March for Science-Taiwan will screen this movie, following a brief introduction. Come along to watch and discuss this film.
