Rocky Mountain Institute, Carbon War Room join forces

Two of the best known names in sustainability have merged in a bid to scale up market-based solutions to a low-carbon economy.

Carbon War Room (CWR), the non-profit group led by British bilionnaire Sir Richard Branson has merged with Colorado-based energy research think tank Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) with the aim of going “further, faster, together” to accelerate market-based solutions to combat climate change.

The two organisations, making the announcement on Wednesday, said their alliance is aimed at multiplying both organisations’s impacts by working together to accelerate the demand and financing for low-carbon solutions available today.

CWR and RMI initially teamed up last February in the ‘Ten Island Renewable Challenge’ held at Branson’s Necker and Moskito islands, where seven out of the 13 Caribbean island nations committed to switch to clean energy to cut their dependence on fossil fuels and contribute to carbon emissions reduction.
