BASF presents insulation solutions to support sustainable development

- Debut of highly fire-proof Elastospir®CH PIR lamination Board

- Comprehensive Finestone®EIFS displayed

- BASF at IGEBC: Booth: 072, First floor

Beijing, China April 2, 2013 BASF, the world’s leading chemical company, highlighted its leading insulation solutions at the 9th International Conference on Green and Energy-Efficient Building & New Technologies and Products Expo 2013 (IGEBC), which opened at the Beijing International Convention Center today. BASF showed its commitment to continuous innovation in low-carbon solutions, in response to national calls for energy efficiency, emission reduction and sustainable development. The company also collaborates with partners along the supply chain to jointly drive a sustainable construction industry in China.

BASF exhibited comprehensive raw materials, products and system solutions from roof to floor at the expo, particularly insulation solutions. BASF displayed its latest research initiative, BASF Ultramid®PA6, which is used on a specialty vacuum film for Vacuum Insulation Panels, realizing excellent mechanical strength and puncture resistance to ensure ideal long term and durable building insulation. BASF also showcased its comprehensive Finestone® EIFS (external insulation and finishing systems), for the first time, including Finestone®STYRO-E, Finestone®Neo, Finestone® Elastopir and Finestone®Rock Wool systems. Finestone®Elastopir wall insulation and finishing system was displayed for the first time. It has various grades to offer and can accommodate to different insulation demands from different climates and fire ratings.

BASF also showed Neopor®innovation foams and Elastospray®CH polyurethane foam and Elastopir®CH PIR lamination board as well as other insulation solutions. Additionally, floor systems MasterTop® and Ucrete®as well as Basotect®- a material for sound absorption–also attracted numerous visitors. The innovative application of BASF UV topcoat adds value to construction materials.

At the expo, BASF showcased the concept of “passive house”, an integrated solution from Europe, and how it could be applied in China. A passive house is an optimally insulated building constructed with various energy-saving technologies. It can maximize the building’s insulation and airtightness, and consequently minimizes its demand for heating and cooling. Therefore the building only needs “passive” measures to realize a comfortable indoor environment, such as natural ventilation, lighting and sunlight heating. Those mechanical or “active” measures could hence be largely reduced or even eliminated totally.

During the exhibition, Mr Qiu Baoxing, Vice Minister of Housing and Urban-rural Development met representatives from BASF’s Industry Team, Construction China. Mr Mark Volmer, Senior Vice President of BASF Construction Chemicals Asia Pacific said, “As the world’s leading chemical company, BASF has been exploring for many years how to realize sustainable development through innovation. We have always paid great attention to environmental protection and energy efficiency in the construction industry. BASF will continue to explore in this direction, in order to offer customers and partners solutions and services that can help contribute to their sustainability goals and China’s energy efficiency and environmental protection goals.”

Ms. Edith Antonatus, an expert in fire protection from BASF Germany, will speak on “External Insulation Wall Fire Safety Management in Europe” at the seminar themed “Research and New Development of External Wall Insulation”, to be held on April 2.

BASF provides other solutions in addition to insulation solutions for many important projects in China, so as to cope with the challenge of short construction process, improve the reliability and durability of building structures and create more comfortable and healthier indoor environment. Such projects include Shanghai Tower, the Water Cube, Shanghai Oriental Sports Center as well as Hamburg House, China Pavilion, Expo Culture Center and other buildings in the Shanghai Expo Park.

The expo is sponsored by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and co-organized by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Finance and other ministries and commissions. This was the fourth time for BASFto participate in this influential industry event, which will last until April 3.
