Viet Nam, Russia to foster closer ties in nuclear energy

Russia would co-operate with Vietnamese experts to establish a centre to train staff, experts and engineers in nuclear power plant operations as well as establish a research academy on nuclear energy, said General Director of Russia’s Rosatom State Corporation Sergey Kirienko yesterday.

He was meeting with President Nguyen Minh Triet on his visit to Viet Nam.

At the meeting, Triet said building a nuclear power plant was of great importance to Viet Nam, and he highly valued Russian support for the work.

He hoped Russia would support Viet Nam in terms of capital, techniques, technology transfers and especially human resources training.

Kirienko said that in the coming time, Rosatom would help Viet Nam in training 70 experts in the field.

He affirmed that Russian experts would co-operate closely with Viet Nam to develop a modern and safe nuclear power plant and that Russia wanted to support Viet Nam in becoming a nuclear energy centre for peace in Southeast Asia.
