The devolved government in West Sumatra province, which is home to 5.8 million people on Indonesia’s Sumatra Island, intends to present new zoning plans to the central government that could regulate currently illegal mines operated by small groups of people.
The shipment are said to be over RM2.15 million (US$550,000) in value and found to be entering the country from Canada, Spain and Croatia, being falsely declared as copper concentrate.
The government has recorded multiple environmental violations at the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park, but locals are yet to see action.
