Indonesia plans to rezone large parts of Way Kambas National Park in Sumatra for carbon trading and luxury tourism to raise conservation funds.
Through a $50,000 sustainability education grant, students are turning personal experiences of environmental change into real-world projects.
The state has seen protests in several villages over development projects and a pro-construction law local people say threatens their wetlands.
The loan is focused on investment in top tourist draws like Bohol and Siargao Island, which also suffer from strained water supply, according to the bank’s project brief.
