Former environment minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad warned prolonged delays to Malaysia's climate change bill and carbon pricing risk undermining investor confidence, while other panellists called for climate change to be treated as a national security issue and greater investment in adaptation.
After weeks of dangerous playing conditions, scientists say the tournament has become a defining example of climate change's growing impact on global sport.
The proposals build on years of cooperation between Bangkok and Tokyo following the catastrophic 2011 floods and recent inundation in southern Thailand.
Rising heat linked to climate change is expected to increase health risks for players, workers and spectators at many sporting venues by 2050.
