Presidential body overseeing nuclear safety to be established in July

The government has agreed to work with the ruling Grand National Party to set up a presidential body to strengthen the supervision of nuclear safety.

At a meeting between government officials and GNP lawmakers on Wednesday to discuss how to respond to the Japanese nuclear crisis, the two sides agreed to establish the committee under the Presidential Office by July.

The committee will be headed by a nuclear expert and comprised of four to six members. It will supervise the Korea Institute of Nuclear Nonproliferation and Control as well as the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety.
