Mehebub Sahana is a Senior Research Fellow and Lecturer in Environmental Management at the University of Manchester. He is an environmental geographer specialising in freshwater ecosystems, with a particular focus on human–water interactions and their spatial, political and governance dimensions in the Global South.
His research interests include transboundary river basin management, landscape ecology, socio-ecological resilience, hydro-climatic extremes, and the socio-political implications of land-use change. His work combines machine learning, geo-hydrological modelling and geographical data science to examine the complex dynamics between water and society.
Sahana’s research has extensively explored how human–environment interactions in the Global South have evolved following colonisation and through the post-partition and post-independence periods. His work brings together narratives on land and water use, climate change and the challenges these transformations pose for sustainable development, policy and environmental governance.
