The Earthshot Prize has appointed Sarah Cragg to lead the sustainability innovation competition’s fledgling Asia operations.

Cragg joins the organisation from Conservation International, where she led the non-profit’s marketing and partnerships function for Asia Pacific.

Based in Singapore, she takes on the role of head of Asia for the global environmental prize founded by Britain’s Prince William, which will hold its third annual awards ceremony in Singapore on 7 November.

Cragg’s role will focus on building partnerships for the prize in Southeast Asia, which contributed just three per cent of submissions globally this year. She will also work to highlight entries from this region as well as support their progress over the long term.

“We are looking to work with partners that can help us find, fund and support the Southeast Asian eco-innovations that we know are out there,” Cragg told Eco-Business. “Using the Earthshot Prize platform we want to help to get them ready for the global stage and maximise their impact.”

Founded in 2020, The Earthshot Prize aims to identify projects that tackle climate change and protect the planet. Winners from Asia over the years include a flower recycling business from India and a water recycling venture from Japan.

Winners will be chosen from five categories that support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, namely protect and support nature, clean the air, revive the oceans, build a waste-free world and fix the climate.

Submissions are open to any individual, company or government with workable sustainability solutions.

Cragg joins with a background in communications, having led sustainability practice for public relations firm MullenLowe Salt. She also led impact and advocacy for the Asia region for Unilever-owned ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s.
