As Asia pursues industrial growth, the world’s fastest growing region is struggling to balance development with sustainable resource use, and ensuring that prosperity is fairly shared.
Balancing the dual imperative of industrial development and sustainability was the key topic of discussion at this year’s Eco Action Day roundtable, themed Industry innovation in the Year of Climate Action.
Hosted by Ricoh Asia Pacific on the 31st May 2018, the event coincided with Singapore’s ‘Year of Climate Action’, a national mission to take action on climate change.
The roundtable brought together 50 business, government, and academic sector leaders to discuss the role companies can play to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and drive innovation in Singapore context.
This report highlights the four themes discussed related to SDG9, which include industry innovation, managing the product life cycle, driving the circular economy and the future of industry and innovation.
Among the strategies for success to come out of the event included companies taking responsibility for the lifecycle of their products, and using incentives to drive behaviour change.
