Why CFOs will drive the climate transition
The real drivers of the climate transition are no longer sitting in the sustainability department – they're in finance, as sustainability shifts from the realm of storytelling to accountability.
Dedicated sustainability roles are being folded into other functions. But this integration is not necessarily a dilution of influence – it is an expansion of relevance for corporate sustainability.
As commitment to climate action unwinds in some parts of the world, companies in Asia could play an important role in the decarbonisation story. But sourcing the right tools to reduce emissions is critical.
With the sustainability agenda facing crosswinds, companies might conclude that sustainable business should take a backseat. But that is misguided. Firms that thrive will stay true to core values while showing how critical sustainability is to the bottom line.
