Cities are facing their most defining challenge yet: accelerating urban sustainable development while coping with mounting climate stress and growing social inequities. In Asia alone, cities – and urban centres more broadly – are beset by record-breaking heatwaves, air pollution and intense storms and flooding.
Vulnerable groups bear the brunt of the impacts, sitting at the forefront of growing threats, yet financial flows into cash-strapped local communities and municipalities remain slow as urban governance gaps persist.Despite these challenges, cities are also accelerators of change, serving as invaluable testing grounds for innovation that can be refined and scaled – from decarbonising the property value chain to regenerative solutions and innovative finance.
The 2024 edition of Cities: Possibilities served as a platform to convene ecosystem leaders from government, finance, industry and the private sector, and facilitate constructive discussions on transforming and decarbonising our cities for long-term resiliency and social equity.
Cities: Possibilities 2024 also marked the first time Eco-Business organised the forum in partnership with CapitaLand, one of Asia’s largest diversified real estate groups. The collaboration enabled the event to bring in a wider range of experts and deep dive into the pressing challenges facing the built environment sector and their solutions.
