Deforested mangroves show strong recovery potential: study
Human and natural disturbances have driven global declines of mangrove forests, which serve as critical protection for coastlines and fisheries.
Fifteen countries have pledged to improve fisheries transparency and share data in a bid to strengthen efforts against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.
On the east coast of Indonesia’s Lombok Island, local people who rely on the local crab fishery have initiated their own mangrove planting program in a bid to resuscitate failing crab habitats.
The Philippines has lined up tens of gigawatts of offshore wind projects on in service contracts, is preparing to auction 3,300 megawatts more, and already has 178 megawatts in early development – strong signs of growing interest. How much of this will actually get built, however, is uncertain amid social implications, high costs, geopolitical tensions, and the unclear role of Chinese players.
