Singapore’s social management for Tianjin Eco-city?

The Tianjin Eco-city can be a testing ground for Singapore to share its experience in social management with China.

Tianjin’s Party Secretary Zhang Gaoli made the suggestion when he met visiting Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean.

Mr Teo is on an official visit to China at the invitation of Chinese Vice-Premier Wang Qishan.

He was briefed on the city’s latest developments.

Public bus routes now link the city to surrounding areas. Schools, hospitals, parks, sports and recreational facilities have started operation.

Over 100 families have also moved into the Jiaming Mangrove Garden residential project - the only project to be fully completed and handed over so far.

More than 5,000 green homes are expected to be completed and ready for handover by the end of this year.

In three years’ time, the city’s population is expected to reach 80,000.

At the meeting, Mr Zhang noted that Tianjin stands out among the other eco-cities in China because of its replicable nature.

Mr Teo also toured the National Animation Industry Park, the first state-level development project for animators in China.

He will meet Chinese leaders including Vice-Premier Li Keqiang and State Councillor Dai Bingguo on Thursday.
