Conversation non-profit The Nature Conservancy (TNC) has appointed Su-E Yap as director of corporate engagement for the Asia Pacific region.

Based in Singapore, her role will focus on working with corporations in the region, to ensure they are “the solution, not the problem” for climate and biodiversity issues, she said in a LinkedIn post to announce her new position on Wednesday.

The corporate engagement role is a newly created position within TNC’s recently established impact finance and markets division.

“In this role, I hope to find new ways to develop and build commercially sustainable solutions that work in Asia. I’m most excited about partnering not just with the biggest global players but also the local and regional heavyweights in the financial, forestry, agriculture and fisheries sectors,” she told Eco-Business.

Yap joins TNC four months after the 72 year-old non-governmental organisation formally launched an office in Singapore, which serves as a global hub for partnerships, innovation and research, focused on addressing climate change and biodiversity loss.

TNC operates in 70 territories, and in Singapore focuses on driving sustainable solutions, raising climate and conservation funding and transforming business practices.

Yap was previously vice president of sustainability-focused venture builder Wavemaker Impact, which supports companies looking to decarbonise.

Over her career, she has worked for consulting firm McKinsey and was also a senior economist for Singapore’s central bank and regulator Monetary Authority of Singapore.
