Univers, a global leader in AI and IoT platforms, has announced a strategic collaboration with SP Group (SP) to advance Singapore’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP) initiative under the Energy Market Authority’s (EMA) Regulatory Sandbox. This partnership marks a significant step toward enabling real-time management and orchestration of distributed energy resources within the national grid.
The collaboration builds on a live demonstration of the VPP proof of concept, first showcased at the 25th Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI) from 28 October to 1 November, held alongside Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2025. Following the demonstration’s success, Univers and SP have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to pilot the VPP platform within EMA’s sandbox environment, moving closer to operational deployment.
In its initial phase, the VPP will aggregate distributed energy assets across multiple sites, providing essential grid services such as frequency regulation, contingency reserve, and energy balancing. The system is designed for scalable expansion nationwide, in collaboration with key partners in energy, infrastructure, and industry.
Under the terms of the MOU, Univers and SP will jointly refine the VPP platform, improving system design, functionality, and readiness for market deployment. The collaboration will involve coordinated efforts on integration, testing, and scaling frameworks to facilitate broader adoption of VPP technology.
