Sharp develops zero-carbon “eco-house”

Electronics manufacturer Sharp has built a house. But not just any house, it’s a high tech home that emits zero CO2 emissions.

The two story home, completed just this month, features a 9kW photovoltaic power generator, sensor-equipped LED lighting, energy efficient appliances, as well as a 8kWH lithium-ion storage battery. It’s also, of course, equipped with Sharp electronics, like LCD tablets and Aquos TVs, that can be used to display information about energy consumption.

Among other things, Sharp is currently evaluating whether or not a 180-inch TV can be fit into the home’s energy-efficient plans.

Sharp is using the eco-house as a way to gather data in order to “realize practical applications that cover things like the control of peak electricity and the compatibility of devices and appliances with smart grids.”
