Adenan secures anti-corruption pledge from top Sarawak timber tycoons

The six biggest timber consortium towkays in Sarawak have personally given Tan Sri Adenan Satem pledges to help stop corrupt practices and illegal logging in the state.

Speaking at a Chinese New Year gathering organised by the Sarawak United Peoples Party in Miri City last night, the Chief Minister said the personal guarantee from the six mega tycoons would go a long way in helping him realise his aim of eradicating corrupt practices in the multimillion-Ringgit timber industry.

“Previously I got the management of the six companies to sign pledges of integrity. Now I have spoken personally to the top towkays of the six companies.

“They have all pledged to play their role in making sure their people do not get involved in illegal logging and corruption inside their own companies, he said.

He also said authorities were seizing illegal logs almost everyday.

“We are making good progress in our fight against illegal logging and corruption,” said Adenan.
