About
Towards a Zero Waste Future
Indonesia is accelerating its journey toward a cleaner and more sustainable future. With a population of over 275 million, the country generates around 56.6 million tonnes of waste each year, of which 60.9 per cent remains unmanaged and ends up in open dumps.
โTo address this, the Government of Indonesia is strengthening its waste management policy through the National Waste Management Strategy, targeting a 30 per cent reduction in waste generation and 70 per cent proper handling by 2025. In October 2025, President Prabowo Subianto signed Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 109/2025, mandating the development of Waste-to-Energy (WTE) facilities in 34 regencies/cities with over 1,000 tons of waste per day. Each facility will process 1,000 tons of waste daily and generate 15 MW of electricity.
Against this background, the Indonesia Waste to Energy Summit 2026 is going to take place on 28-29 April 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia. More than 200 policy makers, leading industry players, landfill and WtE operators, technologies and solutions providers, and academic experts are being invited to join this event to have in-depth discussions on the most concerning topics of this sector and thrash out practical methods to tackle these challenges in joint force.
