Kelvin Yap is Correspondent, Asia at Eco-Business, based in Singapore.
He has spent 15 years in media and communications, beginning as a football writer at ESPNStar Sports and rising to managing editor through Fox Sports Asia, NewsCorp, Dugout and OneFootball. He later founded FoodToo, a platform for keeping surplus food out of the bin.
A long-form writer by temperament, he contributes essays on history and culture to Jom, a Singaporean magazine devoted to slow journalism; the fit is a natural one for someone who waited the better part of a decade before starting his degree in Translation with Political Science. He also holds a certificate in Law and Sustainability from the University of Oxford, and is bilingual in English and Mandarin.
His interest in sustainability began in 2017 with Vaclav Smil's Energy and Civilization. Beyond work, he sits on the board of an education trust, and volunteers with the visually impaired, in food rescue, and in grassroots work. He reads philosophy for pleasure, and holds, against some of the evidence, that a better world is still possible.
