Agilent hosts a webinar about addressing analytical challenges for alternative protein products

Agilent hosts a webinar about addressing analytical challenges for alternative protein products

As the world’s population grows toward ~ 10 billion by 2050, the development and consumption of alternative proteins is expected to grow at pace to supplement traditional sources of protein.

The demand for proteins derived from plants and other biological sources is also being driven by increasing interest in healthy eating, a more sustainable food supply, and enhanced food resilience and food security. As with other food products, producers of alternative proteins must ensure the safety and nutritional content of their products.

In an upcoming webinar on February 15 at 1:30 pm (SGT) Steven Pang, Agilent Spectroscopy Product Specialist, will discuss measuring Heavy Metals and Other Elements in Alternative Proteins and Toh Seok Hwa, Agilent LC/MS Application Scientist, will discuss metabolomics profiling of meat and plant-based meats.

Webinar overview

Talk 1. Measuring heavy metals and other elements in alternative proteins

Key objectives:
• How to prepare alternative protein samples for elemental analysis
• Where and how metals sneak into products during the manufacturing process
• How elemental analysis of alternative proteins is performed using atomic spectroscopy

Talk 2. Impossible to go beyond beef: metabolomics profiling of meat and plant-based meats

Key objectives:
• A brief overview of the history and current landscape of plant-based meat alternatives
• Using food metabolomics to study the “dark matter” of nutrients in meat and plant-based meats
• Are plant-based meat alternatives and meat nutritionally interchangeable?
