Business for Sustainable Development’s executive director Bonar Laureto has moved on after more than 10 years with the non-profit to join Deloitte.

He takes on the position of director of risk advisory for climate and sustainability in Asia. His role will involve leading a team that will advise stakeholders on sustainability, enterprise risk management, and business strategy.

“We will help companies better anticipate, prepare, and act on the threats brought about by our biggest sustainability challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity, and structural inequality, to help them remain relevant, competitive, and successful in any given future scenarios,” Laureto told Eco-Business.

Deloitte’s services include supporting companies in creating business models, strategies, products and services that will address their biggest sustainable development challenges. In February, Deloitte released a report titled The Future of the Chief Sustainability Officer, which highlights how changes in the corporate’s environment are intensifying scrutiny from stakeholders, fuelling a bigger focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG)  risks.

Laureto spent more than a decade working for Business for Sustainable Development, a Philippines-based non-profit that conducts trainings about how to use sustainability reporting standards provider Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) in their disclosures.

Under Laureto’s leadership, the organisation was able to train 500 professionals, representing more than 80 companies in the Philippines. It also engaged more than 50 corporations in over 15 sectors in senior management and functional head levels on embedding sustainability into the business, including setting ambitious targets and sustainability disclosures.

Prior to Business for Sustainable Development, Laureto worked for marine conservation non-profit The Law of Nature Foundation and pharmaceutical Bayer firm.
