Job Description

Morningstar, Inc., a leading global provider of independent investment research, is immediately seeking innovative sales/business development professionals to grow ESG business, specifically Sustainalytics’ fast-growing Green Bond Second-Party Opinions product, in China.

As a sales/business development professional, you must generate revenue for Morningstar by effectively managing a sales territory. You will develop and maintain client relationships by assessing a client’s needs, as well as use a consultative approach to assemble creative solutions from Morningstar ’s Sustainable Finance Services. This person must quickly develop a thorough understanding of our capabilities and how our solutions solve problems. This position requires client-facing travel within an assigned territory and is based in our Beijing or Shanghai office.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead business development & sales for assigned territory, in coordination with Morningstar China market strategy and Sustainalytics’ product strategy;
  • Execute and manage sales independently from prospect research/lead generation through opportunity closing/handing-over to delivery;
  • Lead response to requests for proposals in coordination with product and inside sales;
  • Act as a trusted advisor to underwriters and corporate bankers on how to integrate sustainable finance solutions into their product offering;
  • Monitor market developments, regulations, and standards; identify and share business and product innovation opportunities;
  • Collaborate with marketing in lead generation and brand marketing activities;
  • Build, maintain and extend professional networks in the local market;
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking groups;
  • Provide regular reporting and manage own data in business systems, like Salesforce.com, CRM;
  • Support and adhere to business processes.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a background in investment banking or commercial banking, independent ESG service provider or a related support services provider.

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in corporate banking or ESG;
  • 2+ years of sales experience;
  • Mindset and skills in solution-oriented sales, and a creative problem solver;
  • Ability to present complex products;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of financial services and investing industry;
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated passion for sustainability and/or responsible investment;
  • Collaborative approach to work, excellent interpersonal skills and with high level of integrity;
  • Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills;
  • A Bachelor’s degree is required;
  • Native Mandarin speaker; fluent in English.
