WOC to address UN high level dialogue on ocean and islands

WOC CEO to address government heads of state and ministers regarding industry leadership in ocean and island sustainable development.

On the occasion of the opening of the 71st U.N. General Assembly, the World Ocean Council CEO, Paul Holthus, has been invited to speak to a special high level panel on “Sustainable Oceans and the Blue Economy” consisting of:

·President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet

·Vice President of Indonesia, Yusuf Kalla

·Foreign Minister of the Maldives, Mohamed Asim

·Minister of Environment, Energy and Marine Affairs of France, Ségolène Royal

·Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and Environment, USA, Catherine Novelli

·Chair of the African Union, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma

The WOC CEO has also been invited to be part of the first U.N. Global Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Dialogue panel, which includes, inter alia:

·Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bahamas, Frederick Mitchell

·Minister of Climate and Environment for Norway, Vidar Helgesen,

·Ambassador of Japan to the U.N., Hiroshi Minami

·Director General, U.N. Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Li Yong

The WOC has been requested to ensure there is input from the private sector to these important U.N. discussions on the ocean and small islands. In addition, the WOC was invited again to provide industry presence at the recent 3rd “Our Ocean” conference, organized and hosted by U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry.

The WOC continues to provide ocean business community presence at a growing number of important international gatherings of senior government and inter-governmental officials. An increasing number ofgovernments, U.N. agencies and other multi-lateral organizations recognize the WOC as the leading international, multi-industry leadership alliance on ocean sustainable development. The WOC is increasingly sought after - and is uniquely able and positioned - to ensure that the diverse ocean business community is engaged in international ocean policy, governance, sustainable development, science andstewardship efforts.

The 4th WOC Sustainable Ocean Summit (SOS), Rotterdam, 30 Nov-2 Dec 2016, will again bring together the ocean business community at the only annual industry conference developed by and for the private sector with a focus on ocean sustainable development.
