WOC collaboration to ensure business at 2017 UN Ocean Conference

The World Ocean Council (WOC), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and UN Global Compact (UNGC) are working together to ensure private sector input to the U.N. “Ocean Conference” (UN HQ, New York, 5-9 June, 2017).

A preparatory meeting for the Ocean Conference will take place on 15-16 February 2017 at the UN Headquarters in New York City.

The meeting will bring together stakeholders to consider the themes for the June Conference partnership dialogues and elements for a “Call for Action”.

The WOC, ICC and UNGC are working to engage the business community in the Ocean Conference process and inform other ocean stakeholders about the importance of ocean industry involvement in ocean sustainable development.

The WOC, in collaboration of the ICC and UNGC, will convene a side event on “The Ocean Business Community as an Essential Partner in Ocean Sustainable Development”- Tuesday 14 February (1:15 PM - 2:30 PM) in Conference room 11 of the UN HQ.

This side event will bring together business and other stakeholders in an interactive discussion on the role of the private sector in advancing leadership and collaboration in ocean sustainable development.

The 2017 UN Ocean Conference in June is focused on the theme of “Our Oceans, Our Future: Partnering for the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14”.

SDG 14 addresses the need to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources.

Companies and industry organizations interested in more information on the U.N. Ocean Conference and possible participation should contact the WOC at info@oceancouncil.org.
