Whisper quiet wind turbine wins major sustainability award

Renewable Energy Solutions Australia (RESA) has taken out a prestigious Queensland Premier’s Sustainability Award for its unique Eco Whisper Turbine, the world’s first silent wind turbine.

RESA was presented with the Innovation in Technology Award at the June 8 event. The Premier’s Awards have rewarded innovation in the field of sustainability throughout Queensland since their inception in 2010.

Michael Le Messurier, Eco Whisper’s Business Development Manager, said the achievement was recognition for the turbine’s major advancement in wind power technology, interest in which is now being shown throughout the world. “The Eco Whisper Turbine is a game changing wind turbine which is designed, developed and manufactured in Australia,” said Mr Le Messurier. “It is a great achievement for the team behind the turbine to be receiving accolades of this magnitude and we believe this is the start of many more awards to come.”

Standing at 21 metres and featuring an innovative blade design that makes it virtually silent, the Eco Whisper wind turbine was launched in Geelong, Victoria in October 2011. Developed by RESA for use in mid-sized commercial, farming and manufacturing applications, the turbine features an aluminium hub and blades with the ability to generate 45,000+ KwH per annum on windy sites.

As well as having a near silent operation and delivering 30 percent higher energy efficiency, the turbine operates at a lower start up speed and has a capacity to collect wind at a range of sites. The encased blades also help minimise birdlife casualties.

The Eco Whisper Turbine™ has a small energy operation footprint (21 m2 compared to 250 m2 for solar), one of the reasons Mr Le Messurier has described the turbine as “…a safe and cost-effective clean energy alternative”.
