The Venice Hotel Shenzhen achieves EarthCheck Gold

Following their proactive work in environment protection, the Venice Hotel Shenzhen has certified Gold with EarthCheck, an international benchmarking and certification program for the travel and tourism industry.

The Venice Hotel Shenzhen is the third hotel in China to certify Gold, and the first hotel in the Guangdon Province.

EarthCheck certification puts rigour and transparency into business processes and strengths sustainability reporting. It is currently the only benchmarking and certification platform for the travel and tourism industry.

To certify with EarthCheck, the hotel is assessed in eight areas against global benchmarking standards, which include sustainable development policy, water resource utilisation, energy utilisation, waste management, paper usage, chemical usage, and commitment to the local community.

Since opening, the Venice Hotel Shenzhen has focused on minimizing carbon emissions. To deliver on this commitment, the hotel has participated in Earth Hour since 2008.

The Venice Hotel Shenzhen also supports the local community by purchasing goods of local origins and contracting local service providers wherever possible.

The hotel’s Green Team has worked together since 2008 to establish policy on sustainability, implement action plans, and analyse the results. The result has put the Venice Hotel Shenzhen above best practice in five criteria.

After benchmarking swiftly in 2008, the Venice Shenzhen Hotel worked together to achieve Silver Certification by November 2009. In 2014, after continuously certifying with EarthCheck for five years, the hotel has been awarded Gold Certification to recognise their outstanding results and commitment to sustainability.
