Ricoh Asia Pacific turns to clean energy and commits to power by 100 per cent renewable source in 2019

After Ricoh Company, Ltd announced its new environmental goals to strengthen its commitment to fostering sustainability in business and society in April, Ricoh Asia Pacific took the lead as a regional headquarter to switch to the use of clean energy by powering 25 per cent of the renewable source in its Singapore’s regional office with effect on 20th June.

It will then increase to 50 per cent in the following year and by 2019, the regional office will be 100 per cent powered using the renewable energy.

Mr. Kazuhisa Goto, Managing Director of Ricoh Asia Pacific, first shared on this initiative to Dr. Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State, Singapore’s Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources & Ministry of Health, distinguished guests and local media during the Eco Action Day Circular Economy Industry Roundtable, an environmental event organised by Ricoh Asia Pacific on 1st June.

Mr. Goto expressed Ricoh’s environmental commitment said: “As the regional headquarter in the Asia Pacific region, we recognized that business activities depended greatly on natural resources and the global eco systems.”

“We also realised that environmental issues such as global warming and limited natural resources present both risks and opportunities for businesses, so it important for us to strive for a balance on conservation activities with business sustainability to ensure the betterment of the environment.”

As the first Japanese company to join the RE100, a group of influential companies that are committed to 100 per cent renewable power, globally, Ricoh Group is committed to using a minimum of 30 per cent renewable energy by 2030 and 100 per cent by 2050.

Mr. Goto continues said: “Ricoh Asia Pacific wants to keep the momentum going as the leading regional headquarter. Given that our operation in this region are mainly the offices, it is not easy for us to find renewable sources without the need to install the solar panels.”

“Despite so, we will continue to lookout for prospective energy provider to power renewable source to other sales companies in this region in the near future.”
