Macfood Services towards sustainable future

It was an eventful green Earth Day for Macfood Services (M) Sdn Bhd when they took time off from their busy schedule to plant trees. By going green the premium food company has taken yet another positive step in its journey towards a sustainable future.

On 23 April, Macfood employees had participated in a community tree planting activity at the Raja Musa Forest Reserve in Selangor. The reforestation project, involving around 40 employees from various departments replanted trees in the fire-damaged Raja Musa peat swamp forest. The North Selangor Peat Swamp Forest (NSPSF) covers an area of about 76,000 ha. Raja Musa Forest Reserve (RMFR) (23,000ha) and the Sg Karang Forest Reserve (53,000ha) and is one of the largest remaining contiguous areas of peat swamp forest in Peninsular Malaysia.  The Selangor Government also has identified NSPSF as an important site for conservation of peatland resources and with high potential for education and research activities.

The event was organized by Malaysia’s Global Environment Centre, Selangor State Forestry Department and Corporate Consultants My Khatulistiwa Sdn Bhd. The corporate tree planting is under Raja Musa Forest Reserve Rehabilitation Programme, a partnership between  the Selangor State Forestry Department and Global Environment Centre by working with various groups including My Khatulistiwa Sdn Bhd in a social responsibility based practices.
