Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa is pleased to announce that they have signed an agreement with ALLCOT, an international company that offers various services related to climate protection develops projects to offset carbon emissions produced by employee trips in 2015 thus demonstrating their commitment to the fight against climate change.
The total volume of emissions generated by the hotel’s employees came to 39 mtCO2e (metric tonnes of equivalent CO2). The offsetting of CO2 consists of economic investments in projects that eliminate an equivalent volume of emissions from the atmosphere to what has been produced.
Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa has chosen a project located in the state of Pará, Brazil, the ‘Brazilian Rosewood Amazon Conservation’ (RMDLT), which protects one of the most diverse and abundant ecosystems on the planet. The project consists of an area of 177,899 hectares with an exceptional variety of fauna and flora.
The main objective of the project is to protect the fragile ecosystem of the Amazon rainforest from rampant deforestation and simultaneously giving the depleted forests a chance to regenerate. With this project, a net total of at least 20 million mtCO2e can be compensated, over the course of 40 years. In addition, this project supports 130 families that survive on subsistence farming as well as providing protection for animals in danger of extinction, such as the Giant Anteater and the Ka’apor Capuchin.
