IHS named to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index

IHS Inc (NYSE: IHS), the leading global source of critical information and insight, announced it has been named for a second consecutive year to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index.

The announcement comes just two years after IHS first established a long-term goal for being a recognized leader in Corporate Sustainability by 2015.

“Economic uncertainty and a challenging business environment remain constants in today’s world, and without question, our focus on Corporate Sustainability – helping customers operate more efficiently and with less risk — is helping to position IHS for long-term success,” said Scott Key, IHS president and chief executive officer. “Our listing once again in the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index is a key measure of the success of our company’s Corporate Sustainability efforts. I am incredibly proud of my colleagues for their hard work and dedication.”

IHS drove improvements in all three dimensions of the 2014 RobecoSAM assessment through continued focus on governance, operational eco-efficiency, citizenship and philanthropy and labor practices. The company’s strong culture of sustainability — coupled with IHS information, analytics and expertise – enable IHS to lead the industry in helping clients develop and implement unified strategies to advance sustainable solutions, and to achieve their objectives for Operational Excellence and Risk Management.

“The Dow Jones family of Sustainability Indices is one of the most recognized sustainability performance rating tools,” added Jane Okun Bomba, IHS senior vice president and chief sustainability officer. “Through the several years of our participation in the assessment, we have focused on improving our policies, processes and level of transparency on important non-financial performance metrics and as a result, we have become a better company. Being named to the index for the second year in a row is evidence of the significant progress we have made in Corporate Sustainability.”

The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices were launched in 1999 as the first global sustainability benchmarks and are offered cooperatively by the SAM and S&P Dow Jones Indices to track the stock performance of the world’s leading companies in terms of economic, environmental and social criteria. The indices serve as benchmarks for investors who integrate sustainability considerations into their portfolios, and provide an effective engagement platform for companies who want to adopt sustainable best practices.
