Carrier’s environmental stewardship recognized by SSAwards 2013

Carrier’s commitment to improving energy efficiency was recognized at the Singapore Sustainability Awards 2013 as recipient of the Achievement of Excellence award in the Green Technology Awards – Large Enterprise category. Carrier, the world’s leader in high-technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

“We are honored to be recognized for Carrier’s continuing efforts to drive building energy efficiencies in Singapore,” said Oon Wee Chin, vice president, Carrier Singapore and Southeast Asia. “Carrier’s mission is to help our partners here in Singapore adopt sustainable building practices that deliver environmental, social and economic benefits. We are committed to developing and deploying solutions that will help Singapore building’s owners save energy.”

“As a company that believes green products must start at a green company, we are firm believers in the value of sustainability,” said John Mandyck, chief sustainability officer, UTC Building & Industrial Systems. “That’s why we helped found the Singapore Green Building Council and it’s why we convened our educational Distinguished Sustainability Lecture Series here twice in the past year; we are dedicated to doing our part to help Singapore reach its sustainability goals.”

Carrier actively promotes sustainable practices from design to delivery, ensuring environmental responsibility throughout the manufacturing process, supplier chain, control and monitoring system to service and maintenance. Air conditioning systems are often the largest consumer of energy in a building. As the pioneer in air conditioning technology, Carrier can contribute a great deal in building energy savings. In Singapore, for example, the Carrier 23XRV tri-rotor screw chiller has been deployed in Tokio Marine Centre to achieve Singapore’s best chiller plant performance, with an efficiency that is 22 percent higher than the Singapore Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark GoldPlus standard.

Sustainability leader

A global leader in developing and implementing innovative, environmentally responsible heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) solutions, Carrier was the first in its industry to eliminate HCFC refrigerants and to introduce more energy-efficient variable speed drive (VSD) technology, heat pump systems and heat recovery systems. Carrier consistently invests in new technologies, launching more than 10 new HVAC products for commercial and light commercial markets this year alone. Through its AdvanTE3C Solutions Center in Shanghai, Carrier is also focusing on developing complete building solutions that fully integrate sustainable HVAC, fire detection and suppression, access control, and building control and automation systems for maximum efficiency and cost savings.

Carrier is the only company to be a founding member of green building councils in Singapore, China, India, Argentina, France and the U.S. The company was instrumental in launching the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in 1993 and was the first company to license USGBC’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED) curriculum. Carrier is now one of the USGBC’s largest global partners for LEED education, training thousands of industry professionals around the world.

In 2011, Carrier launched its Distinguished Sustainability Lecture Series designed to convene sustainability thought leaders and international building industry experts to transform the built environment. To date, 17 lectures have convened in Southeast Asia, China, India, Brazil and the Middle East, reaching more than 1,800 building professionals. In May 2013, the Lecture Series was held in Singapore to connect local building owners and designers with global green building experts.
