Are Asian utilities ready for smart grid? Malaysia taking the lead

Transitioning to smart grids is an enormous undertaking for any organisation. How is Asia progressing with developing a roadmap to ensure that its network is fully automated? What do they have in place to overcome the challenges, control costs and deliver on the required plans? The 7th Transmission & Distribution / Smart Grids Asia, to be held in Kuala Lumpur in September, will tackle the various aspects of (smart) grid planning and management, targeting the Asian market.

“Malaysia is starting to take the lead in Smart Grid investments and developments,” states Marcus Magee, the Programme Manager for Transmission & Distribution / Smart Grids Asia 2012, part of the Clarion Events’ stable of conferences and exhibitions. Leading Asian utilities, regulators and ministries as well as service providers will gather in Kuala Lumpur to discuss the latest transmission, distribution and smart grid developments in the region.

Dato Azman Mohd, the newly instated CEO and President of Malaysia’s largest utility provider Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Malaysia, the host utility for this year’s event, will deliver his first keynote address at this year’s event. “As one of the region’s pre-eminent utility events, we are proud to welcome Dato Azman Mohd, who’ll be speaking on the subject of ‘Key developments in transmission and distribution within Malaysia” Magee continues.
