2nd BiobasedWorld ASIA in Bangkok Welcomes International Leaders

CMT’s 2nd BiobasedWorld ASIA takes centerstage in Bangkok on May 27-29, 2013, as Biobased industries in Asia scale up to commercial level following the growing demand for sustainable products and changing industry standards.

Incorporating the 3rd BiobasedChem Asia and 7th Bioplastics Markets summits, CMT’s 2nd BiobasedWorld ASIA is a one-stop convention sponsored by industry leaders PTT Global Chemical, Vogelbusch and Genomatica, effectively gathering players from upstream/downstream bio-based chemicals and plastics value chain. The summit features speakers delivering topics that dive into the success of Europe’s and US’ bio-based industry, and how Asia can simulate such growth and accelerate success in the region.

Policy makers from Thailand’s National Innovation Agency, Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation and Singapore Economic Development Board will detail growth-boosting policies and mandates of bio-based chemicals in Asia. This vital presentation-panel session focuses on individual country’s strategies and stimulant programs that motivate industrial growth in Asia and is a key session of major interest to both petro-based and bio-based players.

Core sessions regarding commercial production and feedstock supplies are expected to draw key personnel from major biorefineries and feedstock suppliers. Speakers of these sessions include:

• Mr. Bill Baum, Chief BD Officer of Genomatica on commercial-scale production

• Mr. Andy Shafer, Executive VP of Elevance Renewable Sciences on high specialty chemicals

• Dr. Andrea Fitzgerald, Senior Consultant at Nexant Asia on synthetic and bio-based feedstocks, and impact of shale gas

• Mr. Petri Haataja, Head of APAC Energy Consulting at Poyry Energy on chip fiber & pellets

Mr. Rich Weber from NatureWorks is also speaking on global bioplastics outlook and upcoming challenges. Senior representatives from Braskem, PTTMCC and Guangdong Sanjiu Biodegradable Plastics will delve into upcoming capacities in Brazil, SEA and China and their respective impacts on regional trade.

The congregation of government bodies, local major players, international suppliers, producers and end-users at the 2nd BiobasedWorld ASIA creates a comprehensive networking ground for cross-sector examination, aligning perspectives and expectations throughout the value chain.
