Sunny days in India powers renewables growth

Blessed with vast amounts of sunny days, India is fast becoming one of the world’s leading solar PV markets. Research and Markets said in a new report that India has the potential to generate 50,000 MW, an amount which could already supply 5 per cent of its energy requirements by 2022. India’s solar PV industry has grown substantially in the past few years on the back of supportive policies instituted by the central and state governments. Solar power generation in India had reached 1 GW in June 2012, coming from only 20 MW in 2011. The development of solar power is led by the Gujarat State Solar Policy and the Centre’s Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM).
