METI to hold world renewable energy congress soon

The Indonesian Renewable Energy Society in cooperation with the World Renewable Energy Network (WREN) will conduct an expert meeting on renewable energy and world-class energy efficiency here on October 17-19.

“The meeting will be beneficial to Indonesia because it can promote investment opportunities in clean and renewable energy,” general chairman of the Indonesian Renewable Energy Society (METI), Hilmi Panigoro said in his press statement obtained here on Sunday.

Another benefit is to attract investment for energy efficiency which plays a strategic role in reducing dependence on fossil energy as well as in overcoming its negative impact.

“We are proud to host the WREC-Indonesia 2011. We hope this gathering will be beneficial to all participants, either from the developed or developing countries in an effort to develop the use of clean and renewable energy all over the world,” Hilmi said.

The conference will also discuss efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that cause global climate change.

In the meantime, the WREC-Indonesia 2011 organizing committee chairman, Herman Darnel Ibrahim said the event is a kind of gathering forum of policy makers, scientists, experts and academicians, NGOs, business executives, banking and related business activities in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Apart from that, the conference participants will have an opportunity to exhibit their technological products and types of services which utilize clean and renewable energy and environmentally clean technologies.

Ibrahim expressed hope that the related parties could utilize and share experiences and knowledge of the new and renewable energy.
