Indonesia, Brunei discuss cooperation in agriculture, forestry sectors

Representatives from Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam on Monday discussed future cooperation in the agriculture and forestry sectors, a press release from the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry said here on Monday.

The envoys of the two countries met in Bali on the sidelines of a confab to prepare the 44th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting and the 18th ASEAN Regional Forum next July 19-23.

“Indonesia welcomes Brunei Darussalam’s interest in cooperation with Indonesia in organic fertilizer for peat land. Indonesia also agrees to send agriculture experts to Brunei Darussalam as part of their cooperation in training,” the statement said.

On cooperation in the manpower field, the senior officials of the two countries noted the efforts undertaken by both countries in ensuring the protection of Indonesians working in Brunei Darussalam.

In the forestry field, Indonesia welcomed Brunei Darussalam’s intention to explore cooperation with Indonesia in investing in sawmills . Indonesia also expressed its willingness to send forestry experts to Brunei Darussalam and provide assistance in forest management.

Previously, the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minsitry’s director general for Asia Pacific and African affairs Hamzah Thayeb said Indonesia was looking forward to boosting cooperation in the tourism and education sectors with Brunei Darussalam. He said cooperation in the two sectors would help realize both countries’ wish to step up people-to-people relations.
