IES partners NEA to enhance energy efficiency training and certification

The National Environment Agency (NEA) will partner the Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES) to form and co-chair the Singapore Certified Energy Manager (SCEM) Steering Committee.

The move is aimed at enhancing the administration of training and qualification of the SCEM.

Professor Chou Siaw Kiang, president of IES, said: “This will help ensure that energy managers are equipped with the professional know-how required to undertake statutory obligations under the Energy Conservation Act and energy efficiency innovations in their companies.

“As NEA continues its drive towards greater energy efficiency in Singapore, it is important to develop a pool of trained energy managers who can support the government’s efforts.”

Mandatory energy management requirements under the Energy Conservation Act came into force on April 22, this year.

Under the Act, energy intensive companies must appoint at least one certified energy manager from its employees by April 1 next year.
