The focus areas of Momentum for Change included women-led results, the urban poor, finance for climate-friendly investments, and information and communications technology (ICT) solutions.
In this video, several leaders, including UNEP director of communications Nick Nutall, convened at the ICT Solutions event to discuss the sector’s role in reducing the impact of climate change. Nialle Dunne, chief sustainability officer of British telecommunications firm BT Group, said that currently four billion people around the world are offline, and one billion people are still off the grid. However, if access is provided, information on how to conserve resources can be disseminated, and collaborative efforts among individuals can be increased.
The increased use of information and communication technology can reduce energy use, cut greenhouse gas emissions and build resilience to the effects of climate change, said the UNFCCC.
