With over 1300 participants from more than 30 countries at the combined 2013 editions of Metering, Billing / CRM Asia and Transmission & Distribution / Smart Grids Asia and Clean Power Asia, Asia Utility week 2014 is expected to attract more than 1500 international participants to attend. The new format will cover major utility topic areas including – metering, billing, customer engagement, transmission & distribution, smart grids as well as renewable energy generation, renewable grid integration and energy storage. At the large scale exhibition more than 80 world leading solution providers will showcase their latest products and services through technology showcase presentations at their stands, providing attendees with an extra learning opportunity.
Renewable and clean energy deployment is growing rapidly as Asia’s economies continue their expansion and the energy demand is projected to double by 2030. Supportive government policies, rising costs of conventional energy, new technology improvements and reductions in renewable energy technology costs have contributed to the dramatic growth of renewable energy markets in Asia over the past decade.
In addition, Asian utilities have to invest in the grids and put increased attention on grid balancing. New technical-operational measures need to be considered to deal with surplus of solar and wind power as well as stronger transmission capacity and interconnection and cross-border interconnections and energy storage. Attaining higher flexibility will require new grid management practices, electricity market rules, business models and system planning. More than ever it is important for generation, transmission, distribution companies and retailers to exchange their views and work in order to accommodate renewable energy policy goals and targets to be fulfilled in the next 5–10 years.
